LaTanya S. Sothern has been an educator for over 20 years. She is a passionate supporter of children diagnosed with disabilities and it is her mission to help them get services appropriate for their needs. A native Washingtonian, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Communication and Economics from The American University and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from Howard University. She is certified in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and School Administration; achieved National Board Certification (Early Childhood Generalist); established a special-needs ministry at her church and is the President and C.E.O. of Sothern Education Solutions, LLC – offering special education consulting and advocacy.
Ms. Sothern currently serves as an administrator in the Prince George’s County public school system. She is an author of two books who has been featured by both the NAACP and Congressional Black Caucus conventions. She is the 2018 recipient of the ACHI Magazine DMV Educator of the Year award. Ms. Sothern and her husband Greg are currently sponsoring date nights and workshops for married couples who have children with special needs. They have been happily married for 19 years and reside in Prince George’s County, Maryland with their two sons, Thomas III (Tré) and Quinton.
